Research Issues for the Comparative Study of Telework

In contrast to a rich literature on telework in Europe and North America, little analysis of this form of working has been undertaken in Asian contexts. This paper summarises the main issues raised about telework in the Euro-American context and the more limited writing on telework in Asia. It suggests a number of factors which need to be taken into account in further empirical investigation of Asian telework and of global teleworking developments. These factors include IT infrastructure, labour markets, national or regional IT development policies and cultural variation. The paper suggests a number of directions for further empirical research on telework in Asia.
